Community Involvement

Sandy Smith is a proud supporter of the following community programs:

  • Cranbrook Minor Hockey
  • Kootenay Real Estate Board (Active Member)
  • Kootenay Real Estate Board Technology Committee
  • Active member in the community supporting various fundraisers like golf tourneys, charity events, Sam Steele Days and more.

On November 29, the Cranbrook/Kimberley RCMP played the Kootenay Ice in ball hockey then went bald or blonde for cancer support.

A fellow Cranbrook RCMP officer is currently undergoing chemo treatment for cancer. To support him, several officers and support staff from both Cranbrook and Kimberley shaved their heads shaved or dyed themselves blonde.

Prior to the shave off, officers challenged the Ice to a friendly ball hockey game. Funds raised from the event went to the Ice charity, Believe in the Gold.

Several officers and support staff have been collecting pledges for the past month. Funds raised by the shave off has gone to assist the family financially to ease the burden of the increased costs for treatment and travel.

The Kootenay Ice Charity; Believe in the Gold supports families affected by childhood cancer, increases awareness of childhood cancers and raises funds for research into the disease that affects one in every 400 kids.
